Little Black Dresses

Little black dresses should be the staple of every woman's eveningwear. They go with practically anything and are the perfect way to show off classy jewelry.

Little black dresses make the perfect club dress or a dress for an evening out drinking or eating. You can easily wear them with heels or with flats and they are perfect dancing dresses.

Most little black dresses are short and can be worn with bare legs or with black tights. Contrary to their name, they don't have to just be black and can be a black and white print or can be black with white collars and cuffs.

The sleeves can be anything from strapless to long sleeve but they tend to go more towards having sleeves and being classier than most other types of dresses.

The purpose behind these dresses is that they can be worn for just about any occasion and can be appropriate for classy occasions or more intimate, sexy occasions.

The fabrics can be knit, cotton, jersey or just about any flowing or sheer fabric. It can be layered with a sheer over-layer and a solid under-layer or it can be embellished with a fluffy hemline or have an embellished collar.

Some little black dresses are sexier and more playful than others but most tend to be on the classy side. They are intended to be worn with black shoes or perhaps metallic shoes to match metallic jewelry you might be wearing.

Jewelry tends to go well with little black dresses because they are usually plainer than other dresses and need embellishing with gold, silver or heavily jeweled jewelry. Diamond jewelry goes extremely well with these dresses.

Because these dresses tend to be classier, the necklines are much higher than, say, club dresses. They have V necklines and scoop necklines and a few have complex necklines involving crossed straps going across the upper chest. Very few have plunging necklines, in keeping with their conservative and classy look.

This is a type of dress that can be worn with every age of woman but usually work better with women who are thinner.

They do come in all sizes, however, and some styles would work with heavier women.

A few little black dresses incorporate color, such as with a jewel toned bodice or a colorful pink bow across the waistline.

There are some with beaded bodices and a light beading across the dress itself, making it look very much like a dress for nighttime.

Even white underskirts are sometimes used with white up along the neckline to offset the black.

There is a big trend toward feathered dresses or all over sequined dresses. They are playful and are designed for a young woman in mind.

For older women, there are longer hemlines and higher necklines, along with long sleeves and more sedate looks.

These dresses can be very expensive, in the range of $500 or more or can be as inexpensive as $50. It all depends on the designer and on what went into making the little black dress.
