Wedding Dresses

Every woman waits for those amazing days when she can try on wedding dresses for her very special day. The wedding dress is the showcase of the entire wedding and every woman knows she must pick the perfect dress to highlight her features and to make everyone look at her and her alone on her wedding day.

Wedding dresses come in a variety of styles and shapes. Popular now is the tight bodice and the strapless bodice that opens out into a long wide flowing skirt.

Another popular dress is the mermaid look, a good dress for taller or thinner women. This is a dress that hugs the body all the way down until it reaches just above the knee where it flares out from there. The dress hides absolutely nothing so you have to be able to carry such a dress off in order to look good.

When you think of wedding dresses, you think "white", right? Well, there are a lot of shades of white you can choose from in your gown. You can choose a stark white dress, which is the brightest white available. It looks great on darkly tanned or dark skin tones. Natural white, also called silk white or diamond white looks great on just about everyone and has a natural white coloration.

There are ivory dresses, also known as eggshell or candlelight-colored dresses. These can be of a yellowish tone or can be of a pinker tone, showing off a woman's skin in a lovely way. Ivory dresses are very elegant and look good with a fuller skirt and a tight bodice. Rum or champagne dresses are slightly darker and have a pinker tone than eggshell dresses. In photographs, such dresses look completely white. Fairer skin tones look nice in champagne colored dresses.

When trying on a dress, know that it could have been tried on by dozens of women before you so you need to get a sample of what the clean fabric looks like to get a true picture of what the dress color really is. Show the swatch against your skin to get an idea of what a new, clean dress will look like against it.

The different wedding dress shapes include the shape-hugging straight dress that is often very revealing at the neckline and may have a slit up the side. An A-line princess style dress cuts close to the bust and then flares away from the body in a beautiful shape for women who have fuller hips and thighs.

The empire waistline has a waist that comes just below the bust line. They are good for women who have thicker waists. The popular strapless wedding gown is tight across the bodice and then has a variety of skirt shapes below it. We've already discussed the popular mermaid gown. Ball gowns have a full skirt and a tight, usually strapless bodice.

Most of these dresses are embellished with sequins, beads, rosettes or lace. Just about any embellishment works for your dress as long as it is tasteful and adds to the overall look. Wedding dresses must stand out and make you look gorgeous for your special day.
